Happy Anniversary to me and Hubby!

Woke up this morning to flowers and chocolates and a loving card and letter, reminding me that today is me and my husband’s anniversary. I try to remember it is a big deal but to be honest, as the years go by the novelty starts to wear off and you begin to loose count. I sincerely thought we were celebrating 24 years but did the math and discovered that it is only 23. Haha, only! For most couples around us, that is a record breaking number. It’s been a rocky 23 years, not by any means an easy marriage. We got married young and, well, I grew up and it took him a little longer. He’s still in the process. Haha. But we didn’t give up, though admittedly, there were many, many times I in particular wanted to. However, our children and my morals kept us together. I made a vow to God 23 years ago, and I took that vow seriously.

I’m entering this photo I took at one of the weddings I shot last summer. I was covering the back and noticed the little flower girl heading back up the aisle collecting all the pedals she had just tossed.

Killed my other blog and am resurrecting this blog. This one will be more personal and will act more as a journal than the other blog/website that was launched to promote my photography business. I am still doing photography but scaling back majorly. Instead, the majority of my time will be spent at the barn with my daughter while she exercises her horse or at the arena’s most weekends to watch her compete. She’s a focused and determined young woman who I am so proud of and am supporting her 100% all the way. Watch for her, some day she’s going to rule the rodeo circuit.

I may still touch on photography subjects and regularly post photos from recent shoots, but the main focus of this blog will be my family and our journey on this crazy path we call life. Today I’m heading over to REACH to watch the tractors square dance. Yes, you heard me correctly–square dance. Should be interesting. I’ll be sure to take photos. Here’s a photo from last night. My daughter attended her high school’s prom even though she’s only in grade 11. Technically this will be her last year in high school as she plans to homeschool for her 12th year. The girl is stretched so thin between school, work, the barn, and training that she made the decision with her guidance councellor and principal that homeschooling would suit her lifestyle best. I’ve always wanted to homeschool but am daunted by the task, so perhaps after a year of homeschooling my grade 12 daughter I may be up for the challenge of homeschooling my little bambino. Or be completely disenchanted by the whole thing.

I have registered my business and am hereonafter officially called Peggy’s Photography! I debated for a long time whether to include my last name or not, but decided in the end that my last name was too complicated to remember and besides Peggy’s Photography had a nicer, more memorable ring to it!

However, this has created a new dilehma as my website will be infact my full name. The reason I chose that was because there is already a website for a peggysphotography.com somewhere in the states, and even though I would have chosen the Canadan suffix of .ca, thought it was way too close. So, until I think of something creative, peggyfleischauer.ca, it will be. But don’t go looking for it anytime soon, because i’m still having lots of fun—not—setting it up!

I have also chosen a business card image and will be printing them soon. It’s one of my first shots taken with my new camera and has always been one of my favorites. I’m on the fence about whether to “clean” his feet or not. One of the reasons I loved this shot was because it was so typical of Curits (and other little boys and girls) taking a brief summer afternoon nap after playing outdoors. What do you think?

I’ve been busy lately trying to set up my photography business. When I bought my new camera last June, my husband was eager for me to get started on promoting my name and business. I, however, was not comfortable with the idea at that time because I needed to really get to know my camera and the business of photography in general. So now that I’m beginning to feel comfortable, I’m ready to delve into it and see where it leads me. In the past several weeks, I’ve been busy creating brochures, websites (stay-tuned), and getting some photos sessions lined up. One of the most enjoyable tasks for me has been the job of purchasing props. I absolutely love props, be it the nature kind such as a waterfall or the kind fused into the shot by a photographer with an eye to detail. And I absolutely love the ones where the photographer has added a prop that catches the eye immedately simply because it does not fit with the scenery, such as a chair in the middle of a wheat field. Anyway, these last couple of days I have been busy hunting down some fantastic props (some with a couple photo shoots in mind) and having a blast. Check out what I’ve found so far and look for them in upcoming photos soon.

I thought it would be kind of nice to post every now and then a little something about myself so that anyone reading/following my blog who doesn’t know me gets a better insight into my character. I’m not going to bore you with long descripitve details but just short little nuggets of info that added together may form a picture of who I am. So one of those nuggets is that I am severely nearsighted. Have been ever since I can remember. If you were to ask what one thing I hate most about myself, that would top the list. I hate wearing glasses, having my view obstructed by dust, smudges, scratches, you name it (having a young child, my glasses have gone through alot) drives me crazy. Over the years I’ve thought often of getting laser eye surgery but the cost kept me away (and, truthfully, the fear). But recently, I noticed the prices have dropped considerably and are more affordable (far less than the price of replacing glasses for the remainder of my lifetime). So on my last visit to my optometrist, we talked about me going in, but then he informed me of something I wasn’t aware of. After the surgery, I may gain farsight but I’ll loose my nearsight. That gave me thought. Was I ready to swap? Give up daily wear of glasses for only reading glasses? Wow, the freedom! But then my son leaped into my lap and, as always, I took off my glasses when he starts to horseplay and I looked at his crystal clear, adorable little face only inches from my nose and I knew, without a doubt, that’s something I wasn’t willing to give up.
